5 Wedding Flower Trends for 2021/2022

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

There are 2 contrasts when it comes to wedding flower trends for the year ahead; go big or focus on the smaller details. As the current trend for intimate weddings is likely to continue, even after the pandemic, couples are now looking to trade up and go all out with their wedding flowers while making every guest, in person or virtual, feel special.

Here are my top 5 wedding flower trends for 2021/2022.

Floral Jewellery

Floral wrist corsages were hugely popular in the 1940s and 1950s, but their popularity waned towards the end of the 20th century. Well, they are back! In 2021 expect to see this look go one step further with both jewellery and stoles made from flowers. These new wedding flower trends are not just for the bride either. Expect to see guests and even the Mother of the Bride getting involved. We particularly love using delicate flowers for floral jewellery such as orchids, hellebores and ranunculus.

Oversized Floral Backdrops

Creating a floral wall or arch to position behind your ceremony area or as a selfie wall has been popular for a few years, but for 2021 expect these to go bigger and bolder. Flowers will be mixed with other eye-catching elements such as ribbons, crystals that reflect the light beautifully as well as key things that are special to the couple getting married. For example, photographs of people who cannot be at the wedding for a thoughtful touch. Or adding fun facts about the couple for a bit of humour.

Abundant Floral Entrances

Since Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in Windsor in 2020, couples have wanted to recreate their gorgeous floral entrance and this wedding flower trend will continue throughout 2021. As well as being beautiful and smelling divine, this entrance will set the scene as to what to expect from the rest of the day. Roses are the perfect flower for this creation, as not only are they heavily fragrant, but they are hardy to stand up to our British weather.

Using Flowers To Say Thank You

At an intimate wedding you cannot invite everyone that you may wish to, so couples will send items for them to feel part of the day and to get involved. This includes floral gifts that are micro versions of what you are having. Sending them in advance so they can position them onto a table while they watch a live stream of the big day will make them feel included.

We are being asked more and more for personalised floral gift boxes or Bento Boxes for special guests. These include flowers chosen as they have meaning to the recipient rather than just tying into the wedding theme. Add a keepsake note sharing how much the person means to you both and why you have chosen the flowers.

Floral Islands

Weddings in 2021 will need to be socially distanced so couples will choose to make separate islands where each social bubble can sit. Anything goes for this wedding flower trend. Each island can be themed or personal to each bubble or a more relaxed vibe to suit the intimate wedding itself. We love the idea of hanging garlands of flowers and foliage to create islands, turning the dance floor into a beautiful maze.
